Position: Pediatric Hospitalist (Nursery)
Location: FHN Memorial Hospital – Freeport, IL
Employment Type: Full-Time (7-on/7-off)
FHN is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatrician to serve as a dedicated leader in our Level II Nursery.
This is a high-impact role where you will serve as the primary physician for our newborn population. By transitioning to a dedicated hospitalist model, you will provide consistency and expert care to the newest members of our community, replacing the traditional rotating call model. You will work in a supportive environment that prioritizes patient safety and adheres to best practices in neonatal care.
The Opportunity
- 7-on/7-off Schedule: Enjoy a consistent schedule of 24-hour shifts (7 days on, 7 days off). Given our annual volume, this model offers an exceptional balance between clinical duty and personal time.
- Level II Nursery: Manage a Level II nursery with approximately 240 deliveries per year. The unit handles infants down to 32 weeks gestation, including "feeder and grower" care.
- Critical Care Management: You will attend high-risk deliveries and provide coverage for all Cesarean sections (approx. 85/year). The unit utilizes positive pressure ventilation (RAM cannula) stabilization for up to 6 hours prior to transfer if necessary.
- Support & Technology: You are never alone; the unit is supported by a 24/7 Tele-NICU consultation unit, allowing immediate access to neonatology experts for complex cases.
- Quality Focus: We follow all ILPQC (Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative) newborn initiatives. You will champion these best practices to maintain our excellent quality compliance.
- Procedural Skills: Perform routine nursery procedures, including circumcisions in our dedicated procedure room.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics.
- Current Illinois medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
- NRP, PALS certification required.
- Proficiency in neonatal stabilization, intubation, and umbilical line placement is highly desired.
- Excellent communication skills and a cooperative spirit for team-based care.
