Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Med Surg position with strong cardiac skills and a compact or ID RN license.
Responsibilities
- Position is on a Cardiac Med Surg unit within a hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes cardiac, orthopedic, neuro, and COVID patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:5
- Required to work 12-hour night shifts on a rotating schedule, every other weekend
- Assignment schedule is 36 hours per week
- May float to other Med Surg units and to PCU if qualified with at least 1 year of PCU experience
- Unit uses Epic EMR, Plum IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
- Nurse aides assist with vital signs, blood sugars, ADLs, and ambulation
- Responsibilities include managing heparin drips, caring for patients with chest tubes, discontinuing central lines, and providing care for orthopedic, neuro, and COVID patients
- Charge nurse and a Unit Based Resource Nurse are available to provide support and assistance
- Structured training program includes approximately 24 hours of coursework and 12-18 hours of on-unit orientation
- Navy blue scrubs are required attire
- Holiday shifts and floating to other compatible units may be required
- Local candidates are not accepted and must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
Requirements
- Active ID State or Compact RN license required
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year Med/Surg experience with strong cardiac background required; 2 years' experience preferred
- Experience managing heparin drips, chest tubes, central line removals, and care for ortho, neuro, and COVID patients required
