The University of Iowa Department of Internal Medicine is seeking faculty for a leadership position in The Division of Hospital Medicine, Adult Hospitalist Program as the Medical Site Director for UI Medical Center Downtown campus. This role will be a 1.0 position, with 25% administrative time to lead the UI Health Care Medical Center Downtown Campus Hospitalist team. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to serve in a community hospital affiliated with largest academic institution and quaternary referral center of the State of Iowa. This campus is a 120-bed hospital located in the heart of downtown Iowa City and the University Iowa, and just one mile away from the main campus. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow a group of outstanding and committed clinicians that provided an invaluable service to the community. Leadership responsibilities will include supporting physicians and Advance Practice Providers in delivering 24-hour inpatient care at the Medical Center Downtown, serve as primary Hospital Medicine representative in hospital committees, collaborating with Hospital Medicine Division leadership on supporting faculty recruitment and development initiatives, as well as fostering opportunities for scholarship, research, and education in the downtown campus.
Appointment rank will be at the Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate or Clinical Professor (non-tenure track) level commensurate with the candidate’s former rank and or experience. Our campus is also part of a leading academic system committed to changing medicine and healthcare.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Candidates must have an M.D. degree or equivalent
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Residency Program
- Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Three or more years of Hospital Medicine experience
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives
Desirable qualifications:
- Experience in a formal physician leadership role

The hospital medicine team at the Medical Center Downtown campus is a growing physician group that has been operating since 2006 composed of both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine-trained physicians. We practice within a hospital located in downtown Iowa City that has provided care for the community for 150 years and act as a referral center for critical access and other local Hospitals. We pride ourselves on high quality, evidence-based care, working within a strong and experienced healthcare team, with excellent subspecialist and administrative support. Our team includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, clinical pharmacists, and administrative staff to support our clinical operations. We provide opportunities for mentorship and career development as part of the Division of Hospital Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa.
